DigitalOcean is thrilled to introduce a major new feature that enables users to centralize log management for Managed Databases: log forwarding! This powerful functionality allows users to transmit log data from their various databases and applications to the log management provider of their choice. Log forwarding will provide DigitalOcean customers with a wealth of benefits for application troubleshooting, security monitoring, and performance optimization.
With the introduction of this feature to our Managed Databases offerings, users will be able to leverage log forwarding to send logs to any third-party log management provider, including popular solutions like OpenSearch, Papertrail, Datadog, and Logtail.
Log forwarding offers Managed Database users a wide range of capabilities that will enhance and improve the entire log management experience. Outlined below are some of these capabilities that will help users to efficiently manage and analyze your logs across various databases and applications.
Managed Databases: API-driven log forwarding: Seamlessly configure log forwarding directly from your managed database through the DigitalOcean API.
App Platform: Built-in log forwarding - Effortlessly configure log forwarding within the App Platform user interface.
Flexible destinations: Forward logs to DigitalOcean Managed OpenSearch (coming soon), a scalable log management, observability, and analytics solution, or any external provider that suits your needs.
Beyond Databases and Apps: The power of log forwarding extends beyond these core services. By using self-managed log processors like FluentBit, users can capture logs from other DigitalOcean resources like Droplets and combine them with database and application logs for a holistic view.
Log forwarding empowers a wide range of use cases for DigitalOcean’s Managed Database and App Platform customers, including:
ISVs (Independent Software Vendors): Gain deeper insights into application performance and usage patterns.
IoT (Internet of Things): Efficiently manage and analyze large volumes of data generated by connected devices.
Marketing Analytics: Uncover valuable user behavior insights to optimize marketing campaigns.
SaaS Applications: Proactively identify and address potential issues to ensure a seamless user experience.
Log forwarding is particularly valuable for DigitalOcean’s SMB customers who utilize both Managed Databases and App Platform. These businesses typically experience significant application traffic and activity, requiring robust log management for efficient troubleshooting. Improved log visibility enables faster customer support, security threat detection, and data-driven decisions to optimize application performance.
By providing log management, DigitalOcean empowers users to:
Troubleshoot issues more efficiently: Quickly identify the root cause of customer problems, leading to faster resolution times and improved support experiences.
Enhance security: Detect and respond to security threats proactively through anomaly detection and rule-based alerting.
Optimize application performance: Gain valuable insights into usage patterns to pinpoint bottlenecks and identify areas for improvement.
Log forwarding leverages the existing API framework for DigitalOcean Managed Databases and the built-in functionality within App Platform, ensuring a smooth integration experience. Additionally, DigitalOcean prioritizes security with end-to-end encryption for data both in transit and at rest, helping to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of your logs.
By closing the gap on log management functionality, DigitalOcean empowers its customers to unlock the full potential of their databases and applications, gaining valuable insights for application optimization, security, and performance.
